Maesbury Broadplace membership form (.doc)

The Broadplace aims to provide educational, informative and fun opportunities to use computers, access the Internet and learn and share tips/information in a friendly environment. The use of the laptops is free to registered members but there will a nominal charge to cover the printing expenses. Clubs and groups will also be able to book sessions. The equipment consists of:

  • 6 Wireless laptops + keyboards/mice/rollerball mouse
  • Broadband Internet access
  • Data projector for large events
  • Large projection screen + smaller screen
  • Colour Laser printer
  • Midi Keyboard and music mixing software.
  • Microphone/Headset
  • CD Writing facilities
  • Digital video camera
  • Scanner and image editing software
  • Web cam and messenger software
  • MS Office + leisure software eg Cross stitch patterns, garden design, genealogy etc

Below are details of what some of the other Shropshire Broadplaces are doing - any of these might be possible in Maesbury, depending on space/time available and volunteers willing to organise them....:

  • Drop in facilities
  • Equipment available for hire
  • Kids club use facilities for projects and games
  • Local film project, Filming projects, Film shows
  • Amateur dramatics, Film club, Youth club, Playgroup, Flicks in the sticks
  • High speed broadband connection and a range of ICT equipment, ideal for holding meetings, training events or small conferences
  • After school Homework club; evening Adult's drop in session; Family History Surgery
  • The whole family can come and enjoy surfing the Net or playing games
  • If you would like to use our high quality colour printer there is a small charge to cover the cost of replacement cartridges and paper.
  • If you would like training in particular software, or help in mastering basic computing please let us know and we will do our best to find a suitable course or tutor.

  • Community Arts projects; Digital camera group
  • Learning groups; Have a go sessions
  • Computer courses by North Shropshire College; Basic computing courses; Beginners classes, Training courses; College courses; Range of courses including ICT

Maesbury Broadplace provides the community with Broadband Internet access, high-spec wireless laptops, colour laser printer and much, much more. Switch on Shropshire, which is part of the County Council, has obtained EU funding to provide Broadband and IT facilities to rural areas. Thanks are due to Iain and Fiona of Coed-y-Rae for providing the room for the kit and enthusiastic support for this exciting development.
