Possible zone boundaries for the Maesbury Broadplace

1. Five miles from Maesbury BP - too big to have any relevance? It includes 3 other broadplaces.

2. left: Two miles from Maesbury BP / right: Maesbury-Aston Ward plus Morton-Crickheath - fairly similar to the two mile zone.

Comments:
the 2 mile zone looks neat geometrically but is a very poor representation of the actual local community that most people would identify with.
- it includes Osbaston which is in Knockin Parish and more likely to use the Knockin broadplace.
- it straddles the A483 west of the old railway line, around Sweeney, an area with little natural affinity to Maesbury and very awkward road connections
- it excludes most of West Felton, nearer by road than Sweeney but further 'as the crow flies'.
Using this as a precise boundary would be meaningless, though perhaps of some interest as a rough guide.

Prediction: if the Maesbury Broadplace is left with no boundary, therefore open to anyone who chooses to travel to it: - one year from now (May 24 2006) at least 90% of the registered members will be from the Maesbury-Aston Ward. (this prediction will now be left on this page so that it can be checked on May 24 2007!)

If the prediction is correct, then is it worth the hassle of defining any precise boundary to exclude a small number of people who might have their own valid reasons for wishing to join us in Maesbury?

Would it be sufficient for the constitution to state that "local residents shall be entitled to free membership of the BP" and that "visitors may use the BP for a fee to be determined by the committee" and that "the committee shall determine the definition of 'local' and 'visitor' according to circumstances as they arise" ?
