The centenary celebrations are under way at the Church of St John the Baptist in Maesbury.

A packed day of celebration took place on June 4, when an exhibition was launched, depicting the history of the church and the people who have made up its congregation in the last 100 years. This exhibition will remain at the church until August 31.

The village was also alive with entertainment and celebration throughout the day, with Open Gardens between 2pm and 5pm, as well as tea and childens games at The Fields.

The afternoon ended with Songs of Praise in church at 5.15pm, and suggestions were welcomed for favourite hymns to be sung at the service - for more info please contact the vicar, Rev Robin Martin on 01691 657090 or leave a message at the church. (text adapted from the Oswestry Advertiser)
