History of Oswestry Rural Parish
boundary changes

The Oswestry Rural Parish was created in 1894 by merging a large number of 'townships', including Maesbury Township, Aston Township and Woolston Township. Due to the large size of the Parish it was then divided into wards with those three townships forming the Maesbury Ward (renamed Maesbury with Aston Ward in 2003).

Others townships were merged to form Oswestry Urban (the Town Council area). The map below shows boundary changes since then:

- this refers to the small area just below Oswestry Town centre on the map, just to the north of Morda:
01 Apr 1934 was reduced to enlarge OSWESTRY URBAN PA/CP Area: 142 acres. Population in 1921: 113. Population in 1931: 147. 1931 Census of England and Wales, County Report Part II, Table B; M. of H. Order No. 77933. The Salop Review Order, 1934
(parts of Selattyn and Whittington were also transferred to the Town at the same time, but there have been no further changes to the Town boundaries)

- Sychtyn (SW part of the map) had been a separate Parish, but became a ward of the Rural Parish:
01 Apr 1967 was enlarged by the abolition of SYCHTYN Tn/CP Area: 591 acres. Population in 1961: 120. 1971 Census of England and Wales, County Report Part I, Table 4; The Salop (No. 2) Order, 1966

- Pant had been part of the Rural Parish and Llanymynech (English side) was a separate parish:
01 Apr 1967 was reduced to create LLANYMYNECH AND PANT CP Area: 237 acres. Population in 1961: 318. 1971 Census of England and Wales, County Report Part I, Table 4; The Salop (No. 2) Order, 1966
