Maesbury
Hall Farm 1787
The
map on the right is from the Shropshire County Archives in Shrewsbury
and shows Maesbury Hall Farm in 1787. (Click in the graphic for a bigger
version) It was drawn 'upside-down' with south at the top, which is
a little confusing. The text at the top reads:
MAP
Maefbury Hall FARM
In the Townfhip of Maefbury
belonging to Mrs. Barretts
REFERENCE - this gave a list of field names and 'A R
P' (financial) values for each - partially shown on the graphic above,
though mostly off to the left.
The two versions below have been rotated to the modern convention
of north at the top, with the field names, and the names of neighbouring
landowners added. The first is the main farm area around Maesbury Hall
and Morton Lane:

The next one is land owned by Maesbury Hall (in green) to
the east of Newbridge and Back Lane, across Marsh Lane (now the main road),
above the cross roads:

It appears from the above map that back lane originally
continued up to the Original Ball pub, with Marsh Lane leading off from
it.
