Potential Maesbury Cycleway

The map below is from www.sustrans.co.uk , and shows all the cycleways in our area,
with the addition of potential routes from Oswestry to Shrewsbury and Welshpool,
via Maesbury, in the dotted orange line.

  National Cycle Network on-road route
  Other signed on-road cycle route
  National Cycle Network traffic-free route
  Other traffic-free cycle route
Proposed future National Cycle Network route
  A-Road
  B-road

The National Cycle Route, in red, to the west of Shrewsbury, is part of Route 81 which continues to Welshpool and Newtown.

The orange routes around Oswestry are Regional Routes administered by the local authorities. One of these ends at the top of the Maesbury Road industrial estate where there is already a cycle path down to the bypass and a short way across the junction towards Maesbury. Cyclists are then directed onto the proposed route.

The route through Maesbury is the obvious connection between Oswestry and Shrewsbury. There is also an easy link from Kinnerley to Melverley to connect with the National Route to Welshpool.

The above proposal would use existing local roads, requiring nothing more than some signposting and official recognition.
