Vegetarian Maesbury

This website is maintained by John Davis, the local contact for The Vegetarian Society UK - you can me for more local info.

I'm also the manager of the International Vegetarian Union (IVU). That's me, right with the microphone, chairing a session of the 37th IVU World Vegetarian Congress in India, September 2006 (click on it for a bigger version).

Everything on this page is in Maesbury Marsh and within a short walk. The red dots below are at the top: Hobnob House (Hazel & me); bottom right: the White House Veg B&B, bottom left: Canal Central

White House Vegetarian B&B - Michael and Eileen Hughes with their pet sheep Bramble and Bumble, Buttons the cow, and unusual breed free range hens scratching around the orchard. Everything for vegetarians, they cater for vegans too...

above: the view from the canalside gate of the White House, looking towards the main main road, with the old bone-works (long gone...) on the right.

For more about Maesbury see the links at the top and bottom of the page - great for walkers, cyclists, canoeists, and of course canal boaters

Canal Central - shop, post office, tea-room, self catering accommodation, broadband internet access

This is not totally vegetarian, Fiona and Iain sell organic/free-range meat etc., but it is very vegetarian/vegan friendly and mostly organic.

The new eco-friendly building by the canal, the self-catering accommodation is upstairs , with two bedrooms and lounge/kitchenette with scenic views.
(click on the photos for bigger versions).

Inside the shop, taken from the tea-room end. The internet access is via the Maesbury Community Broadplace in the tea room - six wireless laptops and lots more, your veg-webmaster is chairman of the Broadplace committee.

below: everything on the table is 100% Vegan - available in the shop, or to take upstairs to the self-catering accommodation. Iain & Fiona
