Day trips - good veggie places near Maesbury

Shrewsbury - The Good Life Wholefood Cafe in Barracks Passage, off Wyle Cop (on the right going down the hill). Completely vegetarian. Tel: 01743-350455.

Llanidloes - The Great Oak Cafe, in Great Oak Street, completely vegetarian. Tel: 01686 413211 The links on the their website are not working... but fortunately the cafe itself is great! About 1 hour's drive, 40 miles, from Maesbury but a good day out if you like the Welsh scenery and maybe some hill walking. There is an organic vegetable shop next door and a 'Natural Foods' shop across the road.

Take the scenic route from Newtown, B4568/B4569 - better views than the main road in the valley, but make sure you have a map.

Machynlleth - Centre for Alternative Technology. A full day trip to see the whole of the centre. They have a restaurant in the Centre itself and the Quarry Shop and Café in the town (see photo), all completely vegetarian. See their impressive website for full details.

By car it's 52 miles, 1 hour 20 minutes, from Maesbury - but naturally the website suggests more environmentally friendly ways of getting there....
